What is recorded here

Thomas Butler died in Carrick-on-Suir on 22 November 1614, ending a life spent balancing English crowns and Irish blades. He had fought Desmond at Affane, treasured Elizabeth I’s favour, and kept the Irish treasury steady for decades. The town still stands where his blood stopped moving, preserving the moment a great political life collapsed into ordinary death.
