Thomas Burke

Marble Hill in County Galway birthed Thomas Burke in 1813, launching a lineage of Galway parliamentarians and horse-racing patrons. His father John sat for the same constituency before him, while Thomas served from 1847 to 1865 as an independent Liberal MP. The estate still echoes through the annual Marble Hill Stakes at the Curragh, preserving Burke’s love of sport long after his death in 1875.
