This black commemorative plaque records: Thomas Bewick 1753-1828. The artist and naturalist, celebrated for his "History of British Birds" traded as an engraver and copperplate printer in a workshop on this site from about 1790. Thomas Bewick was a renowned English illustrator and engraver, best known for his intricate wood engravings and detailed natural history works, particularly "A History of British Birds," which significantly influenced the development of ornithological illustration.
