This white commemorative plaque records: Here lived Thomas Arden (Mayor 1548, Comptroller of the Port of Sandwich and customer of Faversham) and herein on 15th February, 1551 he was murdered at the instigation of his wife. This house is immortalised in the Elizabethan drama "Arden of Faversham" Recorded plaque organisation: Faversham Town Council.
Thomas Arden served as Mayor of Faversham and held significant roles such as Comptroller of the Port of Sandwich; he was murdered in his home by his wife Alice and her lover, a crime immortalized in the Elizabethan drama "Arden of Faversham."
