This blue commemorative plaque records: Private Thomas Alfred ('Todger') Jones VC DCM (1880-1956) Thomas won the Victoria Cross at the Battle of Morval in 1916, for single-handedly capturing 102 German soldiers. He was presented with the medal by King George V. He lived in Princess Street (house now demolished). A statue of Thomas was unveiled in Memorial Garden, Greenway Road in 2014.
