10th August 1997 To commemorate the 30 Assault Unit, Royal Marines (30 AURM) who operated from this site (the former Beach Hotel) for a period of time during World War 2. We will remember them.
30 Assault Unit, Royal Marines, was a covert British commando unit formed during World War II to conduct sabotage and reconnaissance behind enemy lines, particularly in the Mediterranean. The unit operated from the former Beach Hotel during the war, using it as a base for planning and executing secret missions.
