What is recorded here

This blue commemorative plaque records: The Talbot has existed as an inn since 1714, and in the early 1960s it was the largest hotel in Stow-in-the-Wold. Though originally a coaching inn, it does not have the usual wide archway entrance. This may have been reduced when a new frontage was added in the 1840s, or the coaches may have entered at the back of the property via Talbot Court from Sheep Street. Between 1771 and 1864, the brass letterbox was used to post 'corn returns'. These weekly reports on the amount and average price of corn sold locally were used by the government to control the trade. Recorded plaque organisation: Stow and District Civic Society.
The Talbot is a historic inn in Stow-on-the-Wold that has operated since 1714, originally serving as a coaching inn. It played a significant role in local economic monitoring through its use for posting 'corn returns' from 1771 to 1864, aiding government control over the corn trade.
