THIS STONE WAS LAID BY THE RT. HON. ANEURIN BEVAN. M.P. MINISTER OF HEALTH ON THE 21ST SEPTEMBER 1949 TO MARK THE COMMENCEMENT BY BRISTOL CITY COUNCIL OF THE 10,000TH DWELLING AFTER THE END OF THE 1939-45 WORLD WAR (etc.)
The stone was laid by Aneurin Bevan, Minister of Health in the post-war Labour government, on 21 September 1949, to commemorate the start of Bristol City Council's 10,000th post-war housing development. Bevan was a key architect of the UK's welfare state, and this site reflects his commitment to post-war social housing reform.
