What is recorded here

The Castles are a prehistoric hut circle and an unassigned linear earthwork in the Scottish Borders. They are not a castle at all, but a small human claim made in soil long before stone towers became common. The name may be later invention, yet the earthwork still draws a line across the land as if someone once decided where a life began and ended.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records The Castles as Hut Circle (prehistoric), Linear Earthwork (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
