What is recorded here

Mounds and ditches still mark the site in North Lincolnshire, preserving the shape of a fortification built when people needed a defensible position. The earthworks survive as a scheduled monument, a formal recognition that the remains matter enough to protect. Whether the castles housed soldiers, administrators or frightened families is no longer certain, but the ground keeps the answer hidden beneath grass and memory.
The National Heritage List for England records 'The Castles' motte and bailey as a scheduled monument. The saved point comes from the centre supplied by the official record. Listing does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
