What is recorded here
Five hundred metres southeast of Hawkesbourne Farm, a moated castle shadow still lies buried beneath the Horsham soil. The official record protects that hidden shape, though it does not guarantee entry. The ditch may have kept out rain, wolves or unwanted guests. A man may have stood at its edge, watching the water fill and judging whether the land was ready to hold a home.
The National Heritage List for England records The 'Castle' moated site, 500m ESE of Hawkesbourne Farm as a scheduled monument. The saved point comes from the centre supplied by the official record. Listing does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
