What is recorded here
This yellow commemorative plaque records: A simple act of wonder 2020. When The Bevy was first built, Moulsecoomb was an estate of Temperence, with no alcohol allowed. Originally, a gate was cunningly placed here to convince planners that the pub was in Bevendean, when actually it was in Moulsecoomb. Miraculously, it worked. Recorded plaque organisation: Walter & Zoniel.
The Bevy is a pub significant for its historical circumvention of local temperance laws in Moulsecoomb by positioning itself just across the boundary in Bevendean, highlighting the community's desire for alcohol despite restrictive regulations.
A plaque record does not grant entry to a building or private land. View it from a public place unless permission is clearly given.
