This brown commemorative plaque records: Gun captured by Capt. E. W. D. Bell, Royal Welch Fusiliers at the Battle of the Alma. 20 Sept 1854 for which exploit he was awarded the Victoria Cross.
Captain Edward William Derrington Bell VC was a distinguished officer in the Royal Welch Fusiliers who captured an enemy gun at the Battle of Alma during the Crimean War, for which he received the Victoria Cross.
