The Alp

Cliff

What is recorded here

The Alp is a sea cliff composed primarily of Lewisian gneiss, some of the oldest rocks in the British Isles, dating back approximately 2.7 to 3 billion years. These metamorphic rocks formed deep within the Earth's crust through intense heat and pressure, and were later exposed by erosion, making The Alp a notable example of ancient geological history along the Highland coast.
