Domynick Lynch held Terryland Castle in 1574, using its eastern bank position to watch river traffic and the nearby crossing. The Lynch family traded through medieval Galway, so the castle was less a home than a lever for controlling who passed and when. The 17th-century gabled house later replaced the older fortress, easing the place from danger into domestic life. What remains is a fragment, but the river still marks the spot where a family turned water into wealth.
