Telpersie Castle stands in Aberdeenshire as one of the earliest known Z-plan towers, built in 1561 with circular angle towers and a turret stair hidden inside its re-entrant angle. It survived a burning in 1665, lost a later east wing, and lay ruined after 1885 before restoration revealed its gun-loops, kitchen sink and crow-stepped gables. The missing moat and vanished wing leave a shape of loss around the stone, making the castle feel less like a complete building than a memory waiting to be completed.
