What is recorded here
Templeton Mausoleum stands as a complete neo-classical monument because Sarah Upton commissioned Robert Adam to build it for Arthur Upton in 1789. Its rusticated south face, urns and marble inscription still mark a private grief as official architecture, while the other three sides remain deliberately blank. That asymmetry suggests Adam’s grander drawing was trimmed into a smaller vessel for one name. The mausoleum does not decorate a room or celebrate a public ceremony; it shapes stone around memory itself.
Templeton Mausoleum is a cemetery in County Antrim, Ireland.
