What is recorded here
Taymouth Castle and Mains of Taymouth survive as post-medieval chimneys and a farmstead in Perth and Kinross, marked on the official map to the nearest metre. The castle chamber is gone, but the chimneys remain, pointing upward like abandoned fingers. They suggest a building large enough to need heat and presence, even if the room that gave them purpose has vanished.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Taymouth Castle, Mains of Taymouth as Chimney(s) (post Medieval), Farmstead (post Medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Taymouth Castle was built in the 13th century by the Comyn family, powerful feudal lords in medieval Scotland, and later held by the Earls of Breadalbane. It is historically significant as a key stronghold in the struggle for Scottish independence and as a symbol of the region's medieval aristocracy.
The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
