Tathwell long barrow, 350m NNW of the junction of Horncastle Road and New Lane

Thirty-two metres of Neolithic earth still stand above the Wolds, guarding buried bones and forgotten rituals from 3400 BC. The mound rises a metre and a half from scrubland beside Horncastle Road, untouched by ploughs or excavators. It is not a casual heap but a shaped vessel for communal death, its missing ditch likely sleeping beneath the soil. People walked this ridge when Britain was young, selecting parts of their dead for eternity while leaving the rest behind.
