Sycharth Castle was the birthplace and principal mansion of Owain Glyndŵr, standing as a Norman motte and bailey in the Cynllaith valley until King Henry V ordered its total destruction in 1403. The grass-covered mound still holds the ghost of timber halls that once gleamed with tiled roofs and nine identical chambers, while the nearby woodland remembers the manor where Glyndŵr lived with his wife Margaret. What remains is a quiet scar in the green hillside, marked by a small carpark and information boards, yet the site still pulses with the memory of a Welsh prince who refused to bow.
