Dunraven Castle, near St Brides Major, was built in the 13th century by the de Dunraven family, a Norman lineage that settled in Glamorgan after the conquest of Wales. The castle is remembered for its strategic role in the medieval Welsh Marches and for its later association with the influential Bute family, who significantly expanded and renovated it in the 18th century.
