Stronsay, Rothiesholm 'the Castle'

Stack Site (period Unknown)(possible)

What is recorded here

Rothiesholm on Stronsay still stands as a possible castle on a sea stack, though no human hand has shaped its edges. The island may have born the stones rather than built them, leaving the castle name as a mistaken gift. People may have watched the rock rise from the water and imagined walls because invention is younger than certainty.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Stronsay, Rothiesholm 'the Castle' as Stack Site (period Unknown)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
