Stranraer, St John's Well is associated with St John the Baptist and was traditionally visited for healing, particularly for ailments related to the eyes and general health. The well, like many Scottish holy wells, may have pre-Christian origins and was likely a site of pilgrimage and ritual, especially on St John's Day (24 June).
