What is recorded here

Unknown Townland holds a small limestone head that likely watched Cornalee before men moved it to Coolnageer and again somewhere else. It is not much bigger than a child's lap, yet it carries two journeys and one forgotten castle. The stone did not ask permission to leave its home, but it still belongs to the places that touched it.

This is the present location of a medieval limestone head (H 0.17m; Wth 0.12m; T 0.12m) (RO048-168001-), thought locally to have come from the O'Kelly castle at Cornalee, Co. Roscommon (RO048-001----). It formerly was kept at a house in Coolnageer (RO045-168----). (Rynne 1966-71) Compiled by: Paul Walsh Date of upload: 15 October 2013
