Stone head in Manorland (1st Division)

Stone head

What is recorded here

Two stone heads are built into the N gable of a row of cottages just S of the bridge at Trim. They probably carved on decorated corbels from the Franciscan friary (ME036-048025-), which was in the vicinity. This is a large, eroded stone head of limestone, and no features are distinguishable now. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 8 July, 2019
Likely dating to the 13th–15th century, these stone heads may have originally served as architectural corbels in the Franciscan friary before being reused in the cottage gable. Their purpose was likely structural and decorative, though any prehistoric significance or folklore associated with them is not recorded.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
