What is recorded here
Seven stones fell and four remain upright on the south slope of Sugar Loaf, facing Bantry Bay. The broken circle still points northeast and southwest, marking a line across the land rather than disappearing into forgetfulness.
On a terrace on a S-facing slope of Sugar Loaf mountain, overlooking Bantry Bay to the S. This stone circle is incomplete: it may have consisted of eleven stones of which four are upright or leaning and seven prostrate or displaced. Orthostats are 0.57m to 1.25m L, 0.17m to 0.4m T and 0.6m to 1.4m H. The estimated measurement along the presumed main axis, aligned NE-SW, is c. 7.7m. There is a possible entrance stone at NE and a fallen axial stone at SW. An internal boulder-burial (CO104-027002-) lies off-centre to N. Part of a relict field boundary (CO104-027007-) runs roughly NW-SE immediately S of the stone circle. A cairn (CO104-027003-) stands 66m to the NNW, two burnt mounds (CO104-027004-, CO104-027005-) 86m and 97m to the NW respectively, and a fulacht fia (CO104-027006-) is 113m to the WNW.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).

Probably dating to the Late Neolithic or Bronze Age, this stone circle may have been used for ceremonial, astronomical, or communal gatherings. Its alignment and location suggest a possible connection to landscape features or seasonal markers, though specific folklore or use remains undocumented.
