Stogursey Castle began as a Norman ringwork near the Parrett, grew into a moated stone fortress for the de Curci family, and survived as a small cottage that still contains mediaeval gate-tower fabric. The Landmark Trust bought it in 1981 and completed its main restoration in 1984, preserving a place where military pride, marsh water and domestic ingenuity all left their marks.
