Stockland Little Castle is a circular prehistoric enclosure in East Devon, defended by a rampart and ditch that still trace most of its hundred-metre circuit. It sits half a kilometre from the larger Stockland Great Castle, and local memory claims a road once joined the two, making the smaller camp a sentinel rather than a isolated mound. The earthwork has been damaged, infilled and hidden by hedgerows, yet its shape remains clear enough to suggest purpose: a place set aside for warning, shelter or ceremony long before the fields closed around it.
