Stock Well white plaque

This white commemorative plaque records: Stock Well. The smallest of three Borough wells, used until piped water was supplied in 1856. It is first recorded in 1645. The well was sealed in 1880 after two children narrowly escaped drowning. The adjoining field was Stock Well Meadow.

Stock Well was one of three Borough wells providing essential water to the community until piped water systems were implemented in 1856; it ceased operation and was sealed in 1880 following a near-drowning incident involving two children.
