King's Park still circles Stirling Castle like a green guard, its boundary wall marking the edge of a place that has watched armies, kings and ordinary people pass for centuries. The wall is not one age but several, medieval and post-medieval stone joined in a single line around the castle. Walk it at dusk and the park stops being scenery; it becomes a room with no roof, where the castle hangs above like a lamp lit for someone still arriving.

Stirling Castle was originally built by the Kingdom of Scotland in the 12th century, with significant expansions during the reign of King James IV in the late 15th century.
