What is recorded here
Stirling Castle Esplanade holds a 19th-century boundary stone, marking the edge of castle land when human lines mattered more than castle shadow. The stone stands near Stirling, small enough to overlook, yet stubborn in the way permanent things are stubborn. It may have separated ownership, ceremony or danger, but that much has faded. What remains is a point on the esplanade where a line was drawn, and a line still shadows the place.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Stirling Castle Esplanade as Boundary Stone (19th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Stirling Castle Esplanade is part of the historic defenses associated with Stirling Castle, a strategically significant fortress held by various Scottish rulers from the 12th century onward. It is remembered for its role in key Scottish military and political history, including the Wars of Independence.
The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
