Stichill Parish Church is associated with Saint Fillan, a 7th-century Irish monk and missionary linked to several holy sites in southern Scotland. Traditionally, Saint Fillan was believed to have healing powers, and wells and churches dedicated to him were often sites of pilgrimage and local religious observance.
