Flight of fifteen tooled cut-limestone steps, c.1750, arranged in groups of five (east), six (central) and four (west) with limestone flagged landings. Repaired, 1970.

An attractive feature in the townscape of Kilkenny having origins in an early seventeenth-century covered alley established by Nicholas Langton (n. d.) to link High Street with Saint Kieran's Street (then known as Low Lane). Employing locally-sourced limestone the steps are imbued with a picturesque quality lacking in modern methods of paving roads and streets while the inscribed patterns introduce an element of some artistic design merit to the site.
