Stephen's Castle rises in Ceredigion as a medieval motte, its earthwork shaped by hands that no longer walk the valley. The mound still holds the shape of a fortress, though no wall remains to break the wind. A person may have stood atop that soil, watching the valley breathe below, before forgetting the name of the man who built it.
