This blue commemorative plaque records: Stephen Perse MD 1548-1615 Fellow of Gonville & Caius, physician, financier and philanthropist. Founded by his will upon this site the Free Grammar School that later became the Perse School Recorded plaque organisation: Cambridge City Council.
Dr Stephen Perse was a prominent physician, financier, and philanthropist in 16th-century England; he is remembered for founding the Free Grammar School through his will, which later evolved into the prestigious Perse School.
