Star of Promise

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Star of Promise as Motor Fishing Vessel (period Unassigned)-(1984). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Star of Promise was a motor fishing vessel built in the early 20th century and active in Scottish waters until 1984, when it was struck by a storm off the coast of Caithness, leading to its sinking. The vessel was lost with its full crew of six, all of whom perished, and it carried a significant cargo of herring, which was a valuable commodity at the time. Its wreck remains an important archaeological site, reflecting the history of Scotland’s fishing industry in the early 20th century.
