This blue commemorative plaque records: Stanley Unwin 1911 - 2002. Comic actor, broadcaster and creator of "Unwinese". Beginning his career at the BBC War Reporting Unit in Daventry, Unwin's playful nonsense language and distinctive style of humour led to him becoming a celebrated figure in post-war British comedy. A national favourite across radio, television and film he starred in many BBC radio shows as well as the famous 1968 film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! Unwin moved to Long Buckby in 1940, living for many years at 91 High Street. Recorded plaque organisation: West Northamptonshire Council.
