Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Stane Alane, Lochgilphead Cemetery as Standing Stone (prehistoric). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

A prehistoric standing stone, likely dating to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age; it is a rare surviving example of such monuments in the Lochgilphead area and contributes to understanding of early ceremonial or territorial markers in western Scotland.
