What is recorded here

Two globular glacial erratics stand 2m apart on a low hill in County Leitrim, framed by higher drumlins and neighbouring cairns. Local tradition claims feuding giants on Sheebeg and Sheemore threw stones at each other, but both missiles fell short and landed here. The story turns ordinary rock into a missed strike, suggesting the landscape itself recorded the failure of giant pride.

Situated on a low hill with higher drumlins around it while Sheemore is c. 2.3km to the SW and Sheebeg is c. 2km to the ENE. It is depicted only on the 1911 edition of the OS 6-inch map where they are described in gothic lettering as ‘Standing Stones’. Two globular glacial erratics (dims c. 1.2m x 0.9m; H 1m), 2m apart, form a rough N-S alignment. The S stone has a natural vertical channel (Wth 0.1m; D 0.2m) extending the length of its N face.
