STANDING STONE (removed) in Ballykeel

STANDING STONE (removed)

What is recorded here

No visible stone remains in Ballykeel, County Down, though the lost marker once stood within a PREHISTORIC setting now uncertain in exact purpose. People may have gathered there, measured ceremony against the horizon, or simply remembered the place through a stone tall enough to see from a distance. Removal emptied the field but did not erase the shape of human attention that formed around it.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as STANDING STONE (removed). Recorded period: PREHISTORIC; UNCERTAIN. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
