What is recorded here

Two stones still stand .95m apart on the marshy south shore of Smerwick Harbour, their flat faces angled NNW-SSE as if measuring tide or breath. The taller SE stone rises 1.9m, thin as a door and broad enough to shadow a person, while the shorter NW stone leans slightly smaller beside it. A packing stone still shows at the base, proving they were set, not dropped. They may have marked a crossing, a boundary or a promise made to the sea.

A pair of standing stones set .95m apart in a NNW-SSE line, on the lowlying and somewhat marshy pastureland along the S side of Smerwick Harbour. The taller SE stone is 1.9m high, 1.1m wide and a maximum of .3m thick. A large packing stone is exposed at the base. The NW stone is 1.6m high and .9m x .4m at base.
