What is recorded here
O’Kelly measured a rough limestone flag four feet high and four and a half feet wide at the NE corner of the rectangular earthwork in Rathmore South. It stands just outside the fosse, twenty-seven metres from the Rathmore North boundary, hidden from historic mapping but still visible in modern aerial images. The stone may have marked entry, warning or memory for people who moved through that pasture, yet no human name remains attached to it.
In pasture, 270m SW of a townland boundary with Rathmore North. A moated site (LI031-020001-) lies 15m to S. Not depicted on OSi historic maps. Probably dating to the early medieval period, this standing stone may have marked a territorial boundary or had ceremonial significance. Its proximity to a moated site suggests a possible link to local land use or settlement patterns.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
