What is recorded here

Mortons stands on the west side of the main road at Rathgeran, a tall grey pillar marked with shallow vertical lines and a faint horizontal band near the top. The stone has watched the village grow around it for generations, steady while roads, houses and lives changed beside it.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Granite stone with rectangular cross-section (H c. 1.55m; 0.82m x 0.46m). Aligned WNW-ESE.
