Standing stone in Maulyarkane

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Standing stone in Maulyarkane is a 1.6m tall irregular stone set in pasture on a Kerry plateau, aligned north to south. It is the kind of place where people may have marked territory, honoured the dead or simply watched the sky turn above the grass. The stone remains because it was set, remembered and left alone.
In pasture, on a plateau. This standing stone (dims. 1.85m x 1.1m; H 1.6m) is irregular in shape and plan and orientated N-S. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
