Leitir, Donegal: a 1.5 m standing stone may have been pulled from its ancient line and re-set as a gate post. Maps first marked it proudly, then backed away to “site of,” as if the stone itself had admitted it was moving. Cattle still walk the rising pasture above it, indifferent to the difference between a monument and a boundary.

The 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map mark a 'Standing Stone' here. The 3rd edition marks it as a 'Standing Stone (site of)'. A little to the NW there is a stone, 1.5m high which may have been removed from the position marked, and re-erected as a gate post. Situated on pasture land rising to the N.
