Standing stone in Dromskarragh More

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Dromskarragh More stands on Murphys land, not lost but kept, its six foot nine inch girth large enough to mark a boundary, a meeting place or a warning. Bowman measured it in 1934, yet the exact spot has slipped from the memory of the field. The stone may still be there, waiting beneath grass or bramble, holding the shape of the land in its smooth body while people forget where they once stood before it.
Bowman (1934, 466) recorded standing stone on M. Murphy's land, '...2ft 3in by 6ft 9in girth'. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
