What is recorded here

Not a wall of Cong, but a road to everywhere. The Cloghfada Cong stood on the funeral route north of the town, marking the boundary between the living and the departed. It is no longer visible, yet the road remains. Each journey taken there is an act of remembrance, a refusal to forget the shape of loss.

This possible standing stone is recorded as follows by Lavelle (1994, 13 no. 62): 'Wilde (1872, 220) refers to a pillar stone (L 1.8m) in a stone wall in Cong village. Not located.' The stone is also referred to by Neary (1938, 45-46) who recorded that 'The Cloghfada Cong was in a wall on the old funeral road north of Cong.' The exact location of the stone is unknown.
