Standing stone in An Gaineamh Agus An Curraoin rises half a metre above rough mountain ground in Gannew and Curreen, pointing like a broken reed toward the sky. Its narrow shape and small support stones suggest people once set it where the valley could be seen, not where ease could be found.

In Gannew and Curreen townland, situated on a prominent heather and grass-covered rocky hill in rough mountain terrain. Panoramic views are afforded NW-NE over Glencolmcille valley and surrounds, and it is overlooked at ESE-SW by higher ground. Narrow irregularly-shaped stone (H 0.66m; Wth 0.32m NE-SW; T 0.13m) set upright in the ground. It tapers to a point at top. A large flat slab (0.52m x 0.43m) lies on the ground at the base of the standing stone on its WNW side and there are two small stones at the SSE side; these probably served as support stones.
