St Quintin's Castle stood in Llanblethian, built by Herbert de St Quentin around 1102 and later rebuilt by Gilbert III de Clare after 1312. It changed hands through rebellion, marriage and royal favour, surviving destruction in 1321 and passing to Hugh Despenser. The castle endured because men kept returning it to life, even when kings forgot its name.
