St Mungo's Well is associated with St Kentigern (also known as Mungo), a 6th-century Scottish saint venerated as the patron saint of Glasgow. Traditionally, the well would have been visited for healing purposes, particularly for ailments of the eyes and respiratory system, reflecting common medieval beliefs in the curative powers of holy water.
